Features of Deadly Companions PDF
Dreadful companion is a book that has been written by an author who has first-hand experience with the subject matter. He presents detailed information about poisonous animals and how to avoid being bitten or stung by them. The book also includes information about the symptoms of various venomous bites and how to treat them.itself influenced the evolutionary path of microbes. Dorothy H. Crawford here shows that one cannot be truly understood without the other.
Beginning with a dramatic account of the SARS pandemic at the start of the 21st century, she takes us back in time to follow the interlinked history of microbes and man, taking an up-to-date look at ancient plagues and epidemics, and identifying key changes in the way humans have lived – such as our
move from hunter-gatherer to farmer to city-dweller — which made us vulnerable to microbe attack.
Showing how we live our lives today — with increasing crowding and air travel — puts us once again at risk, Crawford asks whether we might ever conquer microbes completely, or whether we need to take a more microbe-centric view of the world. Among the possible answers, one thing becomes clear:
that for generations to come, our deadly companions will continue to shape human history.

Neerav Srivastava “Beautifully written by an expert who is able to show the impact of microbes at various stages of history. Her breadth of knowledge and understanding is a joy.”
Andrew Updegrove “My review title pretty much says it all. This is a good, competent survey of the subject of infectious diseases, appropriate for someone new to the topic. Those who are reasonably well read on the subject won’t learn a lot new, which isn’t surprising given that this is a very large topic and the last 15% of what isn’t a long book to begin with is a glossary and list of sources. The author’s style is very readable, but at times I found my interest flagging.”
Amazon Customer “The book physically was fine. But the material was a drag at times. It’s an alright piece of nonfiction but I’m not sure I would recommend it.”
AlanM “This book provides excellent reading on the subject of microbes and how they interact with us. It reviews all the major diseases that have plagued us over the centuries and the final chapter predicts nicely the current SARS Cov2 situation. The book has many references and each chapter includes further reading list. Highly recommended.”
