The Diploma in Child Health (DCH) is an extremely useful qualification. Paediatrics forms a significant proportion of daily consultations in general practice and of the RCGP core curriculum. We recommend undertaking the DCH to all GPs and GP trainees to enhance your paediatric knowledge and skills for community practice. This book is a revision aid to help you prepare for the DCH clinical examination. It includes a wide range of clinical scenarios and cases for you to practise.
GP trainees may also find this book and preparation for the DCH examination helpful when preparing for the clinical skills assessment for the MRCGP. We hope that this book will help you prepare for the exam and understand that children are not little adults, but they are not little terrors either!
Paediatrics forms a significant proportion of daily consultations in general practice, with almost 30% of an average general practice population comprising of children. A holistic approach to child health is essential, because general practitioners (GPs) are not only responsible for the acute and chronic conditions, but also child development, health promotion, screening programmes and child protection. GPs must be able to work with the numerous agencies now involved in the multidisciplinary approach to childcare and to recognize when to seek assistance from the appropriate agency. The DCH examination This diploma assesses all spheres of paediatric care and passing the diploma demonstrates that the doctor has achieved the appropriate level of competency to carry out their responsibilities to children. It is geared towards GPs or GP trainees, and the scenarios generally refer to the candidate as a GP. The DCH examination is set by the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health and consists of two parts: Part 1 is a multiple choice paper called the MRCPCH Part 1A, which consists of multiple true/false questions, best of five questions and extended matching questions.

Dan “I read Allen Carr’s Easy Way to Stop Smoking in 2009 and haven’t smoked since. Not even craved a cigarette. So I was curious about his other books. I didn’t try them right away, I suppose I was worried that if they didn’t work then it would crush my idea that he really did develop a great system to stomp out our bad habits.
So I downloaded this recently and decided to give it a try. It was very similar in nature to the EasyWay method: while you might not be startled by new amazing facts, Carr’s method is different. It works by undoing the mental and emotional connections to the the habit and product, reversing the brainwashing that years of consumption, advertising and society did to our minds.
Have I kicked sugar since reading it? I’d say by amount 80%. Do I miss it? Nope, hardly at all. I am not craving chocolate, cake, cookies, bread, potatoes. It’s amazing really to change a 4-decade habit with a book.”

Louisie G “I bought this and Easy Way for Women to Lose Weight, which I learned about from my friend who is trying to quit smoking. I didn’t agree with 100% of what he said which is why I gave it 4 stars but I now understand that I am addicted to sugar. I can look back on my life and see instances where this is 100% true. And I agree that sugar is not my friend, but an enemy which has affected my life in many negative ways. I can’t say that I don’t think that cake, cookies and ice cream do not taste good but for the past 3 weeks I have truly had no desire to have any of it. I feel that this book has set me on a positive path. I really think that I will stay off sugar for the rest of my life because a stupid dish of ice cream is just not worth the heartache it causes and the stress of wanting more, more, more……. I have more peace of mind without it, and I really feel this way deep inside and am not waiting to get to my goal weight so that I can be done with the diet, as I’ve done so many times before. I prefer to not be enslaved to “foods” that don’t even nourish the body.”

Oxford Handbook of Epidemiology for Clinicians PDF

Oxford Handbook of Epidemiology for Clinicians PDF Free Download

What is a cohort study? How do I critique a scientifi c paper? What is the incidence of heart disease? How do I calculate relative risk? How do I plan and carry out my own study? What differentiates association from causality? These are the sorts of questions that training in epidemiology will answer but the answers may not be so readily accessible to the busy clinician or medical student. This books aims to fi ll that gap—to provide the basics in epidemiology for clinicians in one handy volume, following the successful Oxford Handbook format. Unlike standard textbooks of epidemiology the focus throughout is on clinical applications of epidemiological knowledge. The book is divided into 4 sections for easy reference. In Section 1, we start by looking at how the methods used in epidemiology can be useful in the diagnostic process, clinical decision-making and the use of evidence to underpin decisions on clinical management. We also show how epidemiology can inform communication with patients about risks, and end with a practical discussion of health promotion in the clinic. In Section 2, we focus on evidence-based practice and how to obtain and summarize data, including principles of systematic review and meta-analysis.
We continue with a description of preventive medicine and screening, using examples from both non-communicable and communicable disease. We complete this section with a practical guide to evaluating clinical practice and point out the similarities and differences between research and audit. In Section 3, we describe the types of study that produce epidemiological and clinical knowledge, the sources and quality of data, and how to produce, understand, and evaluate the statistics underlying research fi ndings and their implementation into clinical practice. We conclude in Section 4 with a brief analysis of the global burden of disease and by summarizing the epidemiology of common diseases. Throughout the book we provide examples, key references, and links to other sources of information. This book builds on our experience in the training of junior doctors and medical students to provide an understanding of key epidemiological concepts as they translate into medical practice. The application of epidemiological concepts into day-to-day practice is relevant to all clinical specialties. The book will therefore be useful to junior doctors in training and to medical students, including as they prepare for their postgraduate and undergraduate examinations.

Marci “I didn’t read The Housemaid, I inhaled it. Who’s gaslighting whom? I felt like I was inside that Ingrid Bergman movie constantly switching my emotions as McFadden toys with clues that are not readily picked up. But it all comes together in the end. Instead of alternating chapters back and forth between Millie and Nina, she delivers a complete sense of each character and the way she writes it is brilliant. The Housemaid does what many thrillers don’t – presents you with a “I don’t know who I am routing for anymore now.” The book from the very beginning had me invested with loyalty issues as if these are real people. There’s one scene where I started biting my nails and I haven’t done that since I was seven years old. My heart was palpitating with fear as if I suddenly escaped into the book and became that character. Terrified. I won’t tell you who or I’ll spoil it for you. There are twists galore-so many and then Freida McFadden does what she does best- she leaves the best for last –yes up until that very last line, be on your toes and keep the lights on. 5 stars+”

betty “OMG!!!!!! WOW, WOW, WOW!!!! This story had it all. I did not want to put it down and now that I’m finished with it I want to read it again. This is one of Frieda’s best books yet and that is saying something because all of them are amazing. This one blew my mind. I love her writing style and the way she ratchets up the tension by keeping you guessing and then second guessing what you guessed and then finding out you were wrong about everything you thought you knew. Lol. If you have to choose one psychological suspense to read this year this is it!!!! It is hands down the best book I have read in a long time and that is saying something because I read all the time. Bravo Frieda McFadden you have outdone yourself.”

Amethyst Peridot “Nina Winchester has it all. The Perfect house. A gorgeous husband who is so kind and rich. She even has a cute little girl. She decides to interview and eventually hire Millie for a live in nanny/housekeeper position.

Millie applies for this “dream job” to be the housekeeper/maid for the Winchesters. It is a live in position with amazing pay. Too good to be true. Well, she should have listened to that feeling. Nina is a horrible boss and treats her like dirt, the sweet little girl isn’t very sweet and has an attitude problem. The only person in this house she can relate to is the husband Andrew.

When Millie takes the job, Nina is ecstatic and takes Millie to her new room. It is small, very small but better the sleeping in her car, which is what she has been doing for the past month or so. The only weird thing is the lock is on the outside, but Nina explains this used to be a storage facility. Millie then noticed scratches near the door on the wall…she has no idea what happened in that room before she was hired, the horrors she is about to face and that NOTHING is as It seems.

This book will leave you shaken, terrified, disgusted and at the same time wanting more. I couldn’t help but keep reading despite the revelations that come and it will have you thinking the worst about those seemingly perfect spouses.”
