User Reviews

I personally enjoyed reading this book when I was going through me pediatrics rotations. A Fellow of mine recommended it and I thanked him while I was going through our rotations. I somehow never found it difficult during my exam days to review pediatric cases and theory after just a one time read of this book during my clinical pediatric rotations. A must read book.

Editorial Reviews

“It should be considered ‘one stop shopping’ for information on the perioperative management of pediatric surgical patients. Each chapter is short and succinct but provides the essential information in handbook style. … An additional highlight of this book is the comprehensive index, which is very well organized and allows the reader to easily locate the subject of interest. Throughout the book, information is presented in a manner appropriate for both trainee and seasoned clinician.” (Lynne R. Ferrari, Anesthesia & Analgesia, Vol. 123 (4), October, 2016). “The writing is clear and easy to understand. The book can readily be used and understood by students, faculty, residents, and fellows. The book is divided into three major sections that correspond to the traditional divisions of surgical care: preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative.” (Robert M. Arensman, Doody’s Book Reviews, June, 2016)

Synopsis

The 100 Cases series provides a novel learning and revision tool that works by guiding the reader through each clinical case in a highly structured manner. Each scenario provides details of the patient’s medical history and the key findings of a clinical examination, together with initial investigation results data for evaluation. Key questions then prompt the reader to evaluate the patient, and reach a decision regarding their condition and the possible treatment plan; while the answer pages reveal the processes a clinician goes through in such situations. The volumes are designed with the student in mind, and include features to aid self-directed learning, clinical reasoning and problem-solving.

Doody’s Review

“This is a nice review of some common cases that are typically encountered in pediatrics. The presentations are thorough and the answers are complete and thought provoking. This book certainly can be used as an addition to a comprehensive pediatric study program.”–Doody’s

User Reviews

I find the 100 cases series very useful for revising for exams at medical school. For each case, a summary of the history, examination and (if appropriate) investigations are given on one page, with a discussion of the case on the following page.If you plan on revising from this edition, I would suggest particularly looking up the guidelines for management for some of the cases.

Overall this is a comprehensive selection of cases covering many of the essential presentations and conditions that may come up in medical school exams. However, further reading of more in-depth textbooks would be essential to complement these cases. The series could be further improved by suggesting additional reading material at the end of each case.

Editorial Review

Dr. Harry Brown, Glycosmedia: Despite its seemingly compact size it packs an awful lot of wisdom within its 693 pages making this a portable and very useful book, designed to be used frequently. The same ethos is found throughout the excellent Oxford Handbook series and this book is no exception. As always it is keenly priced and I think represents very good value for money. It is up-to-date, accessible and has good quality colour pictures and to be honest, it is difficult to find a criticism of this excellent book.

User Reviews

  1. I use it every day for reference as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner. I’m new to the role in primary and every day is a”school day”. It’s easy to use and read.

User Reviews for Rook’s textbook of dermatology

  1. The bible of Dermatology – can’t go wrong.
  2. This is the best and most thorough Dermatology textbook available. This new edition considerably expands the number of contributing authors, including many outside the British Isles, especially from Europe. The photographs are excellent, the discussions thorough, and the recommendations for evaluation and therapy clear. One particularly helpful feature is the use of tables of a treatment ladder, i.e., what are first-line, second-line and third-line therapies. The graphics are also excellent. The on-line version is easy to use and allows magnification of the images of the clinical and histologic findings to better visualize the findings.
