Instead of alternating chapters back and forth between Millie and Nina, she delivers a complete sense of each character and the way she writes it is brilliant. The Housemaid does what many thrillers don’t – presents you with a “I don’t know who I am routing for anymore now.” The book from the very beginning had me invested with loyalty issues as if these are real people. There’s one scene where I started biting my nails and I haven’t done that since I was seven years old. My heart was palpitating with fear as if I suddenly escaped into the book and became that character. Terrified. I won’t tell you who or I’ll spoil it for you. There are twists galore-so many and then Freida McFadden does what she does best- she leaves the best for last –yes up until that very last line, be on your toes and keep the lights on. 5 stars+”

The Author

Grenville Fox has been a consultant neonatologist at the Evelina London Children’s Hospital (Guy’s & St.Thomas NHS Foundation Trust) since 1996, where he has been clinical lead/clinical director since 2000. He graduated from the University of Leicester and trained in paediatrics and neonatology in London before completing a Fellowship in Neonatal/Perinatal medicine at the University of Toronto. He has research interests in neonatal respiratory care and has a number of publications in this area. Nicholas Hoque is a neonatologist working at the Evelina London Children’s Hospital. He graduated from Imperial College School of Medicine and was awarded a PhD in Neonatal Neurology from the University of Bristol. He has worked and trained in many centres of excellence including Great Ormond Street, Birmingham and Bristol Children’s Hospitals, and the University of California San Francisco. He has published original research in peer-reviewed journals, presented internationally and produced content for textbooks. He has sat on several committees at the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health. Tim Watts has been a consultant neonatologist at Evelina London Children’s Hospital since 2001 and clinical lead since 2011. He graduated from University of Western Australia and underwent paediatric and neonatal training in the UK. He has an interest in neonatal infection and neonatal haematology, obtaining his MD at University of London on the subject of thrombocytopenia in the preterm baby. I find the 100 cases series very useful for revising for exams at medical school. For each case, a summary of the history, examination and (if appropriate) investigations are given on one page, with a discussion of the case on the following page.If you plan on revising from this edition, I would suggest particularly looking up the guidelines for management for some of the cases.

Overall this is a comprehensive selection of cases covering many of the essential presentations and conditions that may come up in medical school exams. However, further reading of more in-depth textbooks would be essential to complement these cases. The series could be further improved by suggesting additional reading material at the end of each case.

1. This must be the international version of this textbook. The seller does not make this apparent for this product. Pictures are not in color and must be for the student to learn. This should be blatantly stated.
2. What I ordered at a reasonable price. Came as expected. Happy with the outcome.
3. As described, good information.
4. Worst textbook I’ve ever read. Pictures are obviously old; pictures are in black and white; although the book is thorough, there are no bolded ‘key term’ or any way of knowing where the ‘focus’ or the ‘must-knows’ are.
