This new edition builds on the achievements of the previous editions in containing all current plain radiographic imaging techniques in a single volume. The companion volume ‘Clark’s Special Procedures in Diagnostic Imaging’ contains details of imaging techniques by other modalities commonly available in a modern imaging department. Techniques that are no longer undertaken, or are associated with high radiation patient doses, have been removed or reference made to the best alternative modern technique. This fully-revised 12th edition will ensure that the title retains its pre-eminence in the field, with hundreds of new positioning photographs and radiographic images. Specialist authors have been commissioned to contribute in their own fields, such as the Dental and Mammography chapters. New Paediatric and Forensic sections reflect the changing demands on a modern department. The book has also been expanded to include a Trauma section with reference to Advance Trauma Life Support. The Miscellaneous chapter includes trauma, foreign bodies, tomography, macroradiography, skeletal survey and soft tissue sections that have all been extensively revised, as well as a brand new forensic radiography section. The authors have remained aware throughout that this edition is being published at a time when digital imaging is on the ascendancy, and have made reference to this. In the context of computed radiography the expression ‘film’ has been replaced by ‘cassette’ or ‘image receptor’ whilst recognizing that using direct digital radiography the term ‘image receptor’ should be exclusively used to reflect this developing situation. Equally it should be recognized that the words ‘film’ and ‘image’ are interchangeable in the context of viewing an acquired image by conventional film/screen technology. The Introduction chapter will allow the reader to understand basic digital imaging concepts, enabling them to undertake further study and learn how to adapt techniques to ensure that optimum image acquisition is made with the relevant imaging dose.

Clark’s Positioning in Radiography 13th Edition PDF download
This new edition, with a newly expanded team, continues with the success of the 12th edition in containing the majority of current plain radiographic imaging techniques in a single volume. Mammography, however, is not included but is to be found in the companion volume Clark’s Procedures in Diagnostic Imaging, where it is included in a separate chapter devoted to all the imaging modalities associated with breast imaging. This fully revised 13th edition builds on the changes made in the 12th edition, reflecting the changing technology and demands on a modern diagnostic imaging department and the need to provide optimal images consistent with the ALARP principle. New in Chapter 1 is the emphasis on the ‘patient journey’, with a focus on the needs of the patient and a reflection on the important steps in the process of delivering images of high quality. Also introduced is the formal process of ‘image evaluation’, which radiographers are frequently engaged in, delivering their comments on acquired images as part of an ‘initial report’ in an agreed structure. Additionally, the student is further guided with the inclusion of a ‘10 Point Plan’ which will aid in ensuring excellent diagnostic images are presented for viewing and interpretation. The important role that ‘imaging informatics’ plays is added to provide a general understanding as to how it is used best, both to maximise image quality and to provide the means to administer, store and communicate images where they are needed. For the first time recommended diagnostic reference levels (DRLs) are included within the description of a number of radiographic techniques. Those quoted are derived from the recommended references doses published in the UK in the HPA – CRCE – 034 report Doses to patients from radiographic and fluoroscopic X-ray imaging procedures in the UK 2010 Review. For those DRLs not included in the report DRLs are added, which are calculated on a regional basis by means of electronic X-ray examination records courtesy of Integrated Radiological Services (IRS) Ltd, Liverpool.

Ganong’s Review of Medical Physiology 25th Edition PDF download
Once again, we are delighted to launch a new edition of Ganong’s Review of Medical Physiology—the 25th. The authors have attempted to maintain the highest standards of excellence, accuracy, and pedagogy developed by Fran Ganong over the 46 years during which he educated countless students worldwide with this textbook. Recognizing the pivotal, and increasing, role for graphical material in effective medical education, our goal for this new edition was to undertake a thorough overhaul of the art program while also making important and timely updates to the text. The vast majority of the figures in this edition have been revised or are wholly new. To aid in understanding across content areas, we have used consistent coloring and diagrammatic schemes, wherever possible, to depict comparable structures, cells and organs. We have also included an increased number of cartoons and conceptual diagrams, as well as flow charts, to promote learning of the integrated material that defines physiology. Overall, we hope that the updates to the volume engage the student and make understanding and assimilation of the material a more pleasurable task. We remain grateful to the many colleagues and students who contacted us with suggestions for clarifications and new material upon reviewing the 24th edition. This input helps us to ensure that the text is as useful as possible, although the responsibility for any errors, which are almost inevitable in a project of this scope, remains with the author team. Nevertheless, we hope that you enjoy the fruits of our labors, and the new material in the 25th Edition. This edition is a revision of the original works of Dr. Francis Ganong.

The BNF is a joint publication of the British Medical Association and the Royal Pharmaceutical Society. It is published under the authority of a Joint Formulary Committee which comprises representatives of the two professional bodies, the UK Health Departments, the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency, and a national guideline producer. The Dental Advisory Group oversees the preparation of advice on the drug management of dental and oral conditions; the Group includes representatives of the British Dental Association and a representative from the UK Health Departments. The Nurse Prescribers’ Advisory Group advises on the content relevant to nurses and includes representatives from different parts of the nursing community and from the UK Health Departments. The aims to provide prescribers, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals with sound up-to-date information about the use of medicines. The BNF includes key information on the selection, prescribing, dispensing and administration of medicines. Medicines generally prescribed in the UK are covered and those considered less suitable for prescribing are clearly identified. Little or no information is included on medicines promoted for purchase by the public. Information on drugs is drawn from the manufacturers’ product literature, medical and pharmaceutical literature, UK health departments, regulatory authorities, and professional bodies. Advice is constructed from clinical literature and reflects, as far as possible, an evaluation of the evidence from diverse sources. The BNF also takes account of authoritative national guidelines and emerging safety concerns. In addition, the editorial team receives advice on all therapeutic areas from expert clinicians; this ensures that the BNF’s recommendations are relevant to practice.

We should call our planet Ocean. A small orb floating in the endless darkness of space, it is a beacon of life in the otherwise forbidding cold of the endless universe. Against all odds, it is also the Petri dish from which all life known to us springs. Without water, our planet would be just one of billions of lifeless rocks floating endlessly in the vastness of the inky-black void. Even statisticians revel in the improbability that it exists at all, with such a rich abundance of life, much less that we as a species survive on its surface. Yet, despite the maze of improbability, we have somehow found our way to where we are today. Humans were enchanted by the sea even before the Greek poet Homer wrote his epic tale of ocean adventure, the Odyssey. It is this fascination that has driven us to delve into this foreign realm in search of answers, but the sea has always been reluctant to give up its secrets easily. Even with the monumental achievements of past explorers, scientists, and oceanographers, we have barely ventured through its surface. It is estimated that over 90 percent of the world’s biodiversity resides in its oceans. From the heartbeat-like pulsing of the jellyfish to the life-and-death battle between an octopus and a mantis shrimp, discoveries await us at every turn. And for every mystery solved, a dozen more present themselves. These are certainly exciting times as we dive into the planet’s final frontier. Aided by new technology, we can now explore beyond the two percent or so of the oceans that previous generations observed. But even with the advent of modern technology, it will take several more generations to achieve a knowledge base similar to the one we have about the land. No matter how remote we feel we are from the oceans, every act each one of us takes in our everyday lives affects our planet’s water cycle and in return affects us. All the water that falls on land, from the highest peaks to the flattest plains, ends up draining into the oceans. And although this has happened for countless millions of years, the growing ecological footprint of our species in the last century has affected the cycle in profound ways. From fertilizer overuse in landlocked areas, which creates life-choking algal blooms thousand of miles away, to everyday plastic items washing up in even the most remote areas of the globe, our actions affect the health of this, our sole life-support system. This statement is not here to make us feel that we are doomed by our actions, but rather to illustrate that through improved knowledge of the ocean system and its inhabitants, we can become impassioned to work toward curing our planet’s faltering health. By taking simple steps, such as paying a little more attention to our daily routines, each one of us can have a significant positive impact on the future of our planet and on the world our children will inherit. In short, it would be much healthier for us to learn to dance nature’s waltz than to try to change the music.

Cellular and Molecular Immunology 8th Edition PDF download
This eighth edition of Cellular and Molecular Immunology includes substantial additions and revisions, which we made to keep the textbook current with scientific advances and, at the same time, maintain the clear and readable style that has been typical of past editions. Whenever we have added new information, we have focused primarily on important concepts and have not increased the length of the book. We have also rewritten many sections for increased clarity, accuracy, and completeness. Among the major changes is a reorganization of the chapters dealing with T lymphocyte responses in order to more clearly describe early T cell activation events, differentiation and functions of subsets of CD4+ helper T cells, and functions of CD8+ cytotoxic T cells. In addition, the entire book has been updated to include important recent advances in immunology. Some of the topics that have been significantly revised are innate lymphoid cells, the developmental pathways of macrophages and dendritic cells, and immune checkpoints in tumor immunity. It is remarkable and fascinating to us that new principles continue to emerge from analyses of the complex systems that underlie immune responses. Perhaps one of the most satisfying developments for students of human disease is that basic principles of immunology are now laying the foundation for rational development of new immunologic therapies. Throughout the book, we have tried to emphasize these new therapeutics and the fundamental concepts on which they are based. We have also continued to improve our illustration program. New figures have been added, and previously used figures have been reviewed and often changed for accuracy and clarity. We have kept design features such as the use of bold italic text to highlight “take-home messages” to make the book easy to read. The lists of suggested readings continue to emphasize recent review articles that provide in-depth coverage of particular topics for the interested reader. We have divided the lists into sections based on themes to help readers find the most useful articles for their needs.
