What’s new

A brief inspection reveals the addition of a HUGE number of new diagrams and pictures which improve the clarity of many, many concepts. As usual, great for any medical student getting ready for Step 1. As naturopathic medical students, we often use this 792-page bible to prepare for our first licensing exam and, no doubt, the entire cohort will be acquiring this bad boy.

Some new diagrams/pictures include:
1) Mutations in DNA
2) Protein synthesis
3) Autosomal trisomies
4) Ethanol metabolism
5) Immunology was restructured and it reads more logically
6) Endo vs exotoxins
7) HIV diagnosis algorithm – GREAT diagram.
8) Some additions about the immunology of cancer (v. important) – can be found in the general pathology section
9) Hematology and oncology – rearranged order plus great diagrams about hematopoiesis, pro- and anticoagulation
10) MSK – lovely diagrams about radiculopathy
11) Very nice additions to the neuro section, e.g. lower extent of spinal cord
12) Some handy photos of real-life examples of embryo pathologies
13) Illustrations on the gonadal drainage
14) GI – more histological slides and embryo photos
15) Lots of diagrams in cardio/respiratory to complement the text, e.g. blood supply of myocardium
16) Many other minor tweaks.

First Aid for the Emergency Medicine Oral Boards 2nd Edition PDF Free Download
Preface:

First, congratulations are in order! Your decision to purchase this book and prepare for the Oral Board Exam indicates that you have successfully completed the Written Board Exam. This book focuses on preparing you for the next step: Oral Board Exam. The Oral Board Exam differs significantly from the Written Board Exam. Most physicians have anxiety when they consider the Oral Board Exam process, and this is understandable. Throughout our college, medical school, and residency training, we have taken many written, multiple choice exams and most of us have a high level of comfort with that format. The Oral Board Exam, on the other hand, is totally different. It is verbal, interactive, and you have to be able to think on your feet. To successfully prepare for the exam, you must master not only the material but also this new format. Our goal in writing this book is to help you accomplish both. The first half of this book is dedicated to covering the material that you can expect on the exam. It includes diagnostic and management algorithms and is organized according to chief complaints and split into adult and pediatric sections. The second section of this text is composed of 50 practice cases written out as a dialogue between the examiner and candidate. We chose this format in Oral Boards to help you become familiar with the artificial oral testing environment. Reading through the cases should help you become familiar with the testing format. However, there is no substitute for practicing cases out loud. We recommend that after reading clinical chapters in this book, you have a colleague play the examiner and go through several of the cases with you out loud.
