Dr. Harry Brown, Glycosmedia: Despite its seemingly compact size it packs an awful lot of wisdom within its 693 pages making this a portable and very useful book, designed to be used frequently. The same ethos is found throughout the excellent Oxford Handbook series and this book is no exception. As always it is keenly priced and I think represents very good value for money. It is up-to-date, accessible and has good quality colour pictures and to be honest, it is difficult to find a criticism of this excellent book.

1. The bible of Dermatology – can’t go wrong.
2. This is the best and most thorough Dermatology textbook available. This new edition considerably expands the number of contributing authors, including many outside the British Isles, especially from Europe. The photographs are excellent, the discussions thorough, and the recommendations for evaluation and therapy clear. One particularly helpful feature is the use of tables of a treatment ladder, i.e., what are first-line, second-line and third-line therapies. The graphics are also excellent. The on-line version is easy to use and allows magnification of the images of the clinical and histologic findings to better visualize the findings.

Description Practical and up-to-date information on the presentation, differential diagnosis, laboratory evaluation, pathology findings, and therapy for 100 of the most commonly encountered skin diseases make this an excellent dermatology reference for clinicians. This is the first addition to the Lange clinical series on dermatology, and it is long overdue. Purpose The purpose is to educate clinicians in properly diagnosing and treating their patients with skin diseases. This is wonderfully accomplished. This is a valuable resource for medical students, medical residents, and primary care physicians, as well as dermatologists. Audience The audience is all clinicians and medical students. It should be required reading for first-year dermatology residents. Features The book is well organized, presenting the salient points on differential diagnosis, potential pitfalls to avoid in diagnosis and treatment, clinical tips in how to differentiate similarly appearing diseases in a clear, concise manner. Reputable websites that patients may find helpful for further information on various conditions are included in each discussion. The color photographs are of excellent quality and enhance the text descriptions. This book has one of the best work-up approaches I have encountered on the differential diagnosis of purpura, with a very useful decision tree table. The cosmetic chapter could be replaced with another chapter on medical dermatology, to remain consistent with the rest of the book. The cosmetic chapter is quite cursory, and this is not a procedure-oriented or cosmetic book. Assessment This is one of the best introductory general dermatology books I have read and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The information is presented in a sensible manner and is easy to absorb. As a wound care specialist, I encounter concomitant skin disease. In the past I had a dermatologist jus down to hall from me whom I could curbside consult, but has he has retired I no longer have that option. This book has gone a long way to broadening my knowledge of dermatology. I wish there was a little more depth to it, but for someone like me who has no formal dermatologic training, it has been very helpful.

Description of ABC of Dermatology 5th edition

I think the photos are excellent in quality and scope. The text is easy to understand and well written. For a non-dermatologist, this is a good introductory textbook that I would recommend. While it is called ABC of Derm, it is really quite in-depth than that, at least for a non-specialist. It is a great book for a typical resident in internal medicine or family medicine training who wants to feel more confident when seeing patients with skin rashes.
