The Skeletal System and Muscle Function 2nd Edition PDF

Kinesiology: The Skeletal System and Muscle Function 2nd Edition PDF Free Download

The term kinesiology literally means the study of motion. Because motion of the body is created by the forces of muscle contractions pulling on bones and moving body parts at joints, kinesiology involves the study of the musculoskeletal system. Because muscle functioning is controlled by the nervous system, kinesiology might be better described as study of the neuromusculosketetal system. And because the importance of fascia is better understood and accepted, perhaps the best description might be study of the neuromyofascialskeletal system! There are three keys to healthy motion: (1) flexibility of soft tissues to allow motion, (2) strength of musculature to create motion and stability, and (3) neural control from the nervous system. This book provides the reader/ student with necessary information to apply this knowledge and to help their clients in the health and fitness fields. Kinesiology: The Skeletal System and Muscle Function, 2nd edition, is unique in that it is written for the allied health fields of manual and movement therapies, rehabilitation and fitness training. These fields include massage therapy, physical therapy, occupational therapy, yoga, Pilates, fitness and athletic training, Feldenkrais technique, Alexander technique, chiropractic, osteopathy, naturopathy, and exercise physiology. Information is presented in a manner that explains the fundamental basis for movement of the human body as it pertains to working with clients in these fields. Clinical applications are located throughout the text’s narrative and in special light-bulb and spotlight boxes to explain relevant concepts. CONCEPTUAL APPROACH The purpose of this book is to explain the concepts of kinesiology in a clear, simple, and straightforward manner, without dumbing down the material. The presentation of the subject matter of this book encourages the reader or student to think critically instead of memorize. This is achieved through a clear and orderly layout of the information.

Sobotta Atlas of Anatomy Internal Organs 16th Edition PDF

Sobotta Atlas of Anatomy Internal Organs 16th Edition PDF Free Download

In the preface of the first edition of his atlas in May 1904, Johannes Sobotta writes: ‘Long-standing experience in cadaver dissection clas-ses has prompted the author to ensure that the illustrations of the peri-pheral nervous system and the blood vessels depict the relevant struc-tures in the same way that the student is accustomed to seeing them on the cadaver, i.e. that they depict the vessels and nerves from the same region together. Furthermore, the atlas alternates between pages of text and full-page diagrams. The latter contain the key illustrations in the atlas, while the former — in addition to sketches and schematic drawings and legends — contain a brief, concise text to help the student find information quickly when using the book in the dissection hall! Just as fashions change on a regular basis, so do students’ reading and studying habits. The ubiquitousness of multi-media and the ready avail-ability of information and stimuli are surely the main reasons why these habits are changing at a much faster rate than ever before. Publishers and publishing houses must stay abreast of these developments and of students’ changing expectations regarding atlases and textbooks they wish to use, as well as ensuring the digital availability of the contents. In addition to interviews with students and systematic surveys, a pub-lisher can sometimes gauge students’ expectations from the textbook market itself. Detailed textbooks claiming to be completely comprehen-sive are increasingly being abandoned in favour of textbooks that di-dactically meet students’ educational needs and cover the contents of their courses and exams — whether they are studying medicine, den-tistry or biomedical science. Likewise, although the images in atlases such as Sobotta have fascinated many generations of doctors and me-dical professionals around the world with their precise naturalistic re-presentations of real dissections, they are sometimes perceived by students as being too complicated and too detailed. This realisation re-quires us to consider how we can build upon the obvious strengths of an atlas — which in the course of over 100 years of tradition and 23 German editions, has become a benchmark of accuracy and quality— to meet modern didactic concepts without the overall work losing its unique, exclusive characteristic and its originality.

Myofascial Meridians for Manual and Movement Therapists 2nd Edition PDF »

Anatomy Trains: Myofascial Meridians for Manual and Movement Therapists 2nd Edition PDF Free Download

Since initial publication in 2001, the reach and application of the ideas in this book have far outstripped this author’s expectations. We have been invited to present these ideas and their application on every continent save Antarctica to a wide variety of professionals, including rehabilitation doctors, physiotherapists, chiropractors, osteopaths, psychologists, athletic trainers, yoga teachers, martial artists, performance coaches, massage therapists, and somatic therapists of all stripes. A simple Google® search of Anatomy Trains now yields nearly 200000 hits, as therapists and educators find useful applications far beyond our original conception. This 2nd edition includes many small updates and corrections that arose out of our continuing teaching and practice, as well as preliminary findings from the dissections we have initiated since the 1st edition with Todd Garcia and the Laboratories of Anatomical Enlightenment. We have been able to include some recent discoveries made in the fascial and myofascial world since initial publication (much of it summarized in the Fascial Research Conference of October 2007 – www.Tascia.2007. com), as well as to fill in areas where our initial ignorance of the wider world has been rectified. This edition benefits from completely new artwork by Debbie Maizels and Philip Wilson, as well as color updating of the artwork provided by Graeme Chambers. New client assessment photos have been produced by Michael Frenchman and Videograf. The new full color design allows color-coded access to the information, allowing for a quick gathering of the relevant concepts for a hurried reader, or a detailed analysis for the curious. Like most textbooks these days, this edition makes increasing use of electronic media. The text is studded with website addresses for further study, and our own website, www.anatomy trains.com, is being constantly updated. There are also consistent references to the set of a dozen or more DVDs we have produced to support professional application of the Anatomy Trains concepts.

Structure, Force, and Motion (The Human Body) PDF

Bone and Muscle: Structure, Force, and Motion (The Human Body) PDF Free Download

Bone and muscle do more than just hold a body together. They underlie every move, every touch, every step—in essence, every action undertaken. Even the inhalation and exhalation of life-sustaining breath is made possible by muscles that support the lungs, which are protected by the bones that comprise the rib cage. This volume presents a detailed examination of the human skeletal system and related muscle systems of the human body. Using an easily understandable format, this book creates for the reader an accessible map of the skeletal system and the contributing musculature that enable motion and organ function. The human skeleton provides support and protection for the body’s organs and facilitates movement by providing the framework for the arms and legs to swing free. All the bones in the body are connected by joints, some of which contain fl uid and hence are mobile and permit complex motions such as twisting. While such features are common to many other members of the Animal kingdom, the human skeleton has several distinct features that are found only in the Primate order, the group to which humans belong. The specialized bones in the human hand, for example, enable the action of opposable thumbs, a trait that has played a vital role in allowing humans to grasp objects and to use tools. As humans evolved, their bone structure and musculature began to change. Standing upright and the ability to travel bipedally are credited with forming the fi rst major directional course in human evolution.
